MILLER ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP EXPANDS EARTH FRIENDLY INITIATIVE AND OPERATIONAL BEST PRACTICES WHICH ARE CHANGING THE FIRM’S FUTURE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Miller Environmental Group (MEG) announced the expansion of its alternative energy service lines, Geothermal and LEED Site Sustainability Services, and also unveiled plans for reducing the company’s carbon footprint.  MEG is providing geotechnical evaluations , drilling services for geothermal heating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) for both residential and commercial facilities and LEED site sustainability services. The company also announced it has begun implementing a corporate effort to alter its operational practices in order to achieve drastic improvements in energy consumption, environmental protection, and the firm’s earth friendly activities.

“We are excited to intensify our focus in this direction,” commented Mark Miller, MEG CEO and Owner. “Our Geothermal Services division has already installed thousands of feet of geothermal loops into the earth . The company has invested in a number of new technologies and equipment for exactly this purpose. The future is here and the cost savings and science are incredibly compelling for everyone to consider heating and cooling their homes and businesses with this simple and natural energy source…the Earth.” Dave Reardon, Manager of the Geothermal   and LEED Site Sustainability Services division, commented, “The Department of Energy has determined that geothermal systems are as much as 72% more efficient than conventional heating and air conditioning systems. We have completed and are currently involved in several projects which include small residential homes, co-ops, and estates, to large commercial projects which range from 2,000 sq ft to 100,000 sq ft in heating and cooling requirements.  In addition, we have been able to use our expertise in remediation to expedite the clean up of Brownfield sites and properties which are looking for LEED site sustainability and bring them into state and federal clean-up compliance requirements. These efforts and services include dewatering and onsite treatment of groundwater and soil from in-situ and ex-situ treatment options.

MEG is nearly complete with converting its entire 28,000 sq ft Calverton corporate headquarters HVAC system to geothermal. Additionally, the company has changed all its light fixtures and light bulbs, installed a new roofing system, and all windows and exterior doors are being replaced to improve energy efficiency. Calverton based Operations Manager, Jerry Coogan, commented “The changes in our electrical lighting system will not only reduce our electrical consumption by 60%, but the cost we invested will be recouped in 8 months.”  The MEG campus also boasts a fruit tree orchard and a large fruit and vegetable garden. Every day, employees bring home the bounty grown at MEG. Mark Miller commented, “We are looking at every opportunity to improve upon the way we operate. In fact, the most recent drill rig the company purchased uses vegetable oil for its hydraulic system. Additional facility improvements are in the works including retrofitting the interior office area with renewable materials such as bamboo floors and adobe wall coverings.

Miller Environmental Group is a diversified service company which also provid es clients industrial cleaning, environmental emergency response, groundwater remediation, health and safety training and marine support services. MEG’s corporate headquarters is in Calverton, New York, and the firm has six additional offices serving the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern US.

Earth day Celebration 2007

What a great EARTH day!! Miller Environmental Group, Inc. along with the Suffolk County Parks Foundation and Suffolk County Parks Department sponsored Earth Day 2007 which was held Sunday April 22, 2007 at Indian Island County Parks in Riverhead, NY. Earth Day 2007 activities included a variety of events including nature walks, free kayak demonstrations, a historical perspective of Native Americans on Long Island, and more. Miller Environmental Group provided a booth and displayed the earth friendly services offered to our customers. MEG provided visitors with informative handouts, discussions and photos of Geothermal and Alternative Energy solutions. Geothermal heat exchange is a great way to save long term energy costs for the heating / cooling of homes and business; along with a great way to reduce green house emissions that are causing global warming. MEG also exhibited emergency response services to oil spills on land and water to reduce pollution and environmental impact to marine wildlife. A “hands on” oil spill demonstration, showed visitors the absorbent material MEG uses to clean up oil spills on the water to reduce the pollution and contamination to the environment. MEG looks forward to Earth Day next year! Thanks to all the MEG staff who participated in the event!!
